Frankfort, SD (Sept. '10)

Evan and I decided to go on a road trip this past Sunday (9/5/10), but here is the twist - we took a map, pinned it on his wall, and drew a three hour radius from Brookings on it.  Next, we threw a marker at it.  First throw was outside the circle in North Dakota.  The second one was sweet success - Frankfort, South Dakota!!
We packed up Evan's tent, got some grub and other things and headed out.  Instead of going the normal straight route, we just drove random roads that led north and west.  Check out this road… I lost the bet that the 'cow path' would lead to an actual road.  But seriously, when I see a random tractor deserted I don't feel hopeful!

When we pulled into Frankfort we were greeted with an almost non-living town.  Check out this street... Frankfort did have a general store, post office, and bar - all which were closed (it was Sunday I guess.)

We didn't bring wood so I called my G-ma..  I thought she lived close.  According to her we were a long ways away.  So Evan and I resorted to the next best thing: shelter belts.  We stumbled across a jackpot!  Now we were cookin' with fire!!
Gathering the wood, we headed back to Frankfort and found a lovely patch of grass in the middle of town.
Don't worry, we did ask if it was okay to camp there!  But it definitely was not a campground - no bathrooms, sites, or fire pits.  We entertained ourself by making up a random disc golf course.  After we headed back to make a fire.  Again I doubted Evan's ability, but again he showed me I was wrong!  We had hot dogs.  If you know me I don't eat them, but I did.. actually had 2! Crazy, what I am becoming!

I honestly don't ever remember falling asleep under stars.  We even had friends in the distance... coyotes, eeek!  This is one of the reasons I didn't go to the bathroom from Sunday at 4:00 till Monday morning.  I was just too nervous and never told Evan.  I refuse to whine about that.... next time though I'm going to speak up though :)  But after reassurance about coyotes and coons I did fall asleep.

Overall it was an awesome trip.  I loved the randomness, the unknown, laughs, and just hanging out.  Just wait till the next one... We could be coming to a town near you ;) HA!
